ERNIE 5.1 has officially been released, showcasing remarkable performance at only 6% of the pre-training cost compared to similar models. This model is powered by disaggregated fully-asynchronous reinforcement learning and scaled agentic post-training, which allows it to deliver comprehensive upgrades across various capabilities, including agent performance, reasoning, and creative tasks. Notably, ERNIE 5.1 has achieved a top ranking in China on the Arena Search Arena.
On April 30, LMArena published its latest rankings, where ERNIE-5.1-Preview secured the No. 1 position among Chinese models and No. 13 globally on the LMArena Text Arena. This model has consistently placed in the global top 10 across multiple category leaderboards, highlighting its competitive edge in the AI field.
In addition to its text capabilities, ERNIE-Image is a text-to-image generation model that utilizes a single-stream Diffusion Transformer (DiT) with 8 billion parameters, achieving leading performance among open-weight models. Furthermore, the introduction of ERNIE 5.0 marked a significant milestone as a 2.4 trillion-parameter Unified Multimodal Model, trained from scratch. This model integrates text, image, video, and audio into a single autoregressive framework, overcoming the limitations of late-fusion architectures to achieve seamless cross-modal understanding and generation.
The advancements in ERNIE models are not limited to just one version. For instance, PaddleOCR-VL-1.5, an upgraded model, has achieved a new state-of-the-art accuracy of 94.5% on OmniDocBench v1.5. The continuous updates and improvements in the ERNIE series reflect Baidu's commitment to pushing the boundaries of AI technology and providing robust solutions for various applications.
